35" Dia. Capacitance Hat for your Screwdriver Antenna

If your Screwdriver antenna resonates at 29.950 Mhz with a
3 ft long radiator, adding this hat to the top will bring resonance
just above 18.300 Mhz. This will make 17meters and below
much more efficient and increase the radiation resistance
dramatically.

The photos below show the different hat designs and sizes
I built for mobile screwdriver antennas and special short
vertical antennas. Showing from small to large. All made
from 6061 T6 Aluminum.

This is a view from the bottom looking up.

This is the new 35" Dia. 12-Spoke Double Screen Capacitance Hat.

This is the new 36" Dia. 16-Spoke Screen Capacitance Hat.
I think it's the pick of the litter for driving down the road use.

For BIG gains in capacitance, 36 inch long aluminum rods were bent, inserted and set screwed into the radial connectors.
There are no modifications required to the capacitance hat connectors to do this on all my 12 Spoke or 16 Spoke cap hats.

This is the "Competition" 48" Dia. 16-Spoke Screened
Cap Hat. To be worn at the next shoot out near you.

Here I have a 36" Dia. x 16" high 8-spoke Cylindrical
Capacitance Hat. This requires more height or less
radiator length to use on the road. It has just about
twice the capacitance of the flat 8-spoke.

Above I have a 36" Dia. x 18" high triple 8-spoke Cylindrical
Capacitance Hat. This requires a little more height or less
radiator length to use on the road. Looks pretty wild going
down the road but only increased capacitance a little more
over the double 8-spoke x 16". The other fiberglass support
holds a WI-FI antenna I bought for picking up internet.

Here's a closer look at the 36" Dia.x 18" 3-stage
Cylindrical Capacitance Hat.

I put this together just to see how much Capacitance I could
get out of this configuration. It's a 36" Dia. x 36" tall Cylindrical
Cap. Hat. I don't use this on the road for obvious reasons but it
works great on a short antenna. "LOOK MOM - NO COIL !!!!"

The Cylindrical is about the size of a dog house
or a rather large bird condo.

Shown above is a 16-spoke - 65"dia. Capacitance Hat I built. It will soon be
upgraded to a screened configuration for even greater current draw.

Here is the 65"Dia. 16-spoke Cap Hat fully deployed. Resonant@7.225MHz using "NO COIL"!
Hat was easily transported with special mount on the back of the Jeeps spare tire.

Shown above is the new 65" Dia. 16-spoke "screened" cap hat. The added screen dropped the resonant
frequency another 200 Khz. on 40 meters.

Shown above is the jeep rigged up in the
40 meter Mobile Shootout configuration.

For greater gains in capacitance 36 inch long aluminum rods were inserted into the radial connectors as shown with
no modifications required. Adding peddles to the 65 inch capacitance hat has now increased the diameter to 90 inches.

This is how I transport the 65 inch Capacitance Hat on the back of the Jeep.

Here is the way the transport bracket holds the
Capacitance Hat on the spare tire.

Shown here is a 10 foot 6" Dia. 16-spoke Capacitance Hat
along with special linear loading I used on 75 meters.

If you look real close you can see the 33 feet of aluminum
mig welding wire around the perimeter of the 75 meter hat.

Here is a closer look at the configuration required
to keep the weight down and the size up.

Note the small tie straps that are used
to stiffen the hat up.
